Violet Bell is dying and before that happens she has a plan. She wants to send her granddaughters, Clara and Madeline, to Europe. Her goal for this trip is to have them deliver goodbye letters to people she loves and to save the sisters' relationship before it's too late. The sisters could not be more different - Clara always does what is expected of her while Madeline lives by her own rules. As the girls travel Europe via the Queen Mary and the Orient Express, they begin to regain the relationship they lost so long ago. As they deliver Violet's letters they quickly come to realize that this trip was about discovering family and themselves.
This was a fantastic novel about family, forgiveness, and personal worth. Clara and Madeline's characteristics make the reader become invested in their stories and why they have been estranged. As each sister goes through life-changing moments, you can see how they begin to see the need for each other. I've read a few stories with dual authors and this was one of the best. The writing styles were seamless and the storyline flowed beautifully. This was a terrific partnership that I would love to read again. Each author is wonderful on their own but together they are amazing.
