Ava Gardner is an up-and-coming Hollywood goddess; Frank Sinatra is a popular crooner with a teeny-bopper following. Frank and Ava fall head over heels in love, ready to take on the world. The only problem is their love is incredibly toxic. Between alcohol-fueled arguments and heated lovemaking, these two must deal with each other's flaws while dealing with the ebbs and flows of their Hollywood careers. Arguably one of the golden couples of Hollywood, they soon discover that love alone isn't enough.
I loved this story, how it was written, and the way…that being said it also made me mad at the men in Ava Gardner's life. Frank Sinatra was an egotistical misogynist who could not deal with Ava's career when his own hit a downward turn. Ava did everything she could to help him when no one else would. Heather Webb did a wonderful job of telling Ava & Frank's story and kept me reading as often as possible. I feel when a novel makes me feel as much as this one did that it is truly something special. The end of this book made my eyes tear and I could not stop myself from feeling Sinatra's complete heartbreak at his most significant loss.
