When three couples decide to go away to a cabin in the woods in the middle of nowhere they expect to be able to relax and enjoy time away but little do they know that other people have different plans for them. Mako and his wife invite his sister and brother-in-law as well as a friend and her boyfriend to the mountains for a grown up getaway. Knowing that a storm is on its way they feel they are prepared with plenty of food, drink, and a backup generator. Suddenly people start seeing figures and they lose power as the storm rages on. When Mako's wife goes missing they start to think that something terrible is happening and are soon proven correct.
I honestly thought I would enjoy this book more than I did. Reading it started to feel like a chore around Chapter 30 and there were still 19 more. There were far too many characters to keep track of and their individual stories were just very involved. While I appreciated the ode to genetic genealogy throughout the story I just felt the story went on far longer than it should have.
