October Reads

The weather has started getting a little cooler here in New Jersey and it's the perfect time to stay home and sit on the couch with a good book. There are quite a few good books coming out that I am really looking forward to.

One Woman's War - Christine Wells (Publication Date: October 4, 2022): Victoire Bennett walks into the Intelligence Division and meets Commander Ian Fleming. While she believes she will be given a secretarial position, she is quickly brought into a secret mission to deceive the Germans into believing an Allied attack is coming. Friedl Stottinger is a double agent who falls in love with the man she is meant to work with. In the end, both women will have to work together to make it through the war.

A Scatter of Light - Malinda Lo (Publication Date: October 4, 2022}: Set in California around the time gay marriage is legalized by the Supreme Court, Aria Tang West goes to one final party with her friends but when things get out of hand, she is sent to live with her grandmother. While there she meets her grandmother's gardener, Steph Nichols. They quickly become friends and eventually more.

Jackal - Erin E Adams (Publication Date: October 4, 2022): A young black girl has gone missing in the woods outside of her town. Liz, a young woman who made it out of that town, remembers that this has happened before; a young girl went missing and was never found. Upon doing some research, she discovers that other people have gone missing in this town - all young and all African American. She must discover the truth before she goes missing as well.

Cradles of the Reich - Jennifer Coburn (Publication Date: October 11, 2022): Three women are brought into each other's lives in the Lebensborn Society maternity homes. Gundi is a pregnant university student who is secretly part of a resistance group, Hilde is a believer in the Nazi ideology and excited to be giving birth to an Aryan baby, and Irma is a nurse in the maternity home who must rebuild her life. Based on real maternity homes, shows how women, when they can depend on each other, can create lifelong bonds.

It Starts With Us - Colleen Hoover (Publication Date: October 18, 2022): In a continuation from It Ends With Us, Lily and her ex-husband have settled into a comfortable existence where they can peacefully co-parent their daughter and be civil to each other. She runs into her first love, Atlas, and is overjoyed when he asks her out but realizes her ex may not be happy with Atlas being a part of their daughter's life.

Such a Pretty Girl - T.Greenwood (Publication Date: October 25, 2022): In typical historical fiction fashion, this story is told in dual timelines. Ryan Flannigan is made aware that an old photo of her has been found in the possession of a wealthy man recently revealed to be a pedophile and a trafficker with a personalized note on the back from Ryan's mother. Ryan thinks back to when this photo was taken during a time when she and her mother lived in the West Village and she is thrust into the spotlight.
